The 2018 Oregon Regional MATE ROV Competition will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Lincoln City Community Center in Lincoln City, Oregon. This is the same place where the competition was held in 2017. Team registration will open on the Oregon Regional website by January 15, 2018. By the time registration closes on April 15, all teams and team members (students and adult mentors) must be registered. There will be a small non-refundable cost associated with registering a team this year, so please register wisely.
The following classes will compete at the Oregon Regional competition: SCOUT, NAVIGATOR and RANGER. The top scoring team(s) in the RANGER class will be eligible to advance to the International MATE ROV Competition which will be held in Federal Way, Washingon on June 21-23, 2018. Please note that this year's International Competition site will be relatively easy to travel to by car from Oregon, so even teams that aren't competing might consider attending one of the days to watch the top contenders in action.
Things to think about now:
1. Put the April 28 date on your calendar and tell your school/organization about it so that conflicts do not arise.
2. Have your team check out the Full Competition Manuals which are now available for each class online: https://www.marinetech.org/missions-specs--scoring/
3. Start building Mission props so the students can see what they look like, as this may inform their ROV design. Once their ROV is built, they can practice with the props in a pool prior to the competition. Prop building instructions are on the main MATE ROV website under each team class name.
4. New to MATE ROV? Consider registering for the Introduction to ROV educator workshop which will be held in Coos Bay on January 13th.
